WITNESS is a unique documentary that enables refugees, migrants and displaced persons all over the world to tell their stories to represent themselves with dignity and authenticity. Each person in the film was provided with a camera, microphone, and a platform to document their struggles, triumphs, joys and heartbreaks. Across the world men, women and children are on the move, leaving everything behind, risking their lives fleeing violence, climate change, and human rights abuses. Witness brings together individual stories from Guatemala, Afghanistan, Greece, Ukraine and South Sudan. The different faces of people fleeing and forces driving them to take great risks to find safety combine into a shared narrative of desperation and determination. Each person in the film holds fast to the flickering hope that the future might be just, if not for them, then at least for their children. The tapestry of these individual stories of displaced people all over the world, when woven together, tells the larger global migrant story. With migrants increasingly used to divide communities around the globe, Witness seeks to connect the audience with migrants' actual lived experiences to make clear that migrants are one of the many faces of our shared humanity and deserve the same dignity, opportunity, and agency as any other human being on this planet.
